For parents

Putting the steps of an everyday task in order (brushing teeth, getting dressed, washing hands, making a slice of bread and jam) helps children picture an activity from start to finish. This planning skill matters a great deal for becoming more independent. Each step is read aloud when it's touched.

Tips

  • After the game, do the task for real, following the order from the game.
  • Talk about the steps together: "What do we do just before rinsing?"
  • If dragging the pictures is hard, touching one picture and then another swaps them.

These games are a playful extra: they don't replace an occupational therapy assessment or therapy sessions. If you have questions about your child's handwriting, attention or motor skills, talk to a professional.
